The moral of this story is Get yourself a bull. Up until Latigo 14 we had never owned a bull that could produce the kind of females necessary to advance a program. Latigo's daughters quickly made their mothers obsolete. At least until 1992, before some of them finally got some age and had begun competing with their own daughters, no Latigo daughter had ever weaned a calf with a ratio less than 100. We paid what we thought was a lot of money for this bull -- he was the top seller at Healey Bros. back in 1981 (the day this picture was taken), but all these years later we are still reaping the benefits.
